Veteran Service Officers (VSO)

Effective April 1, 2019, the Veteran's Services Collaborative is expanding it's efforts to accommodate those veterans who wish to obtain assistance in filing their benefit claims.

Drop into the Veteran Center at 23222 Lyons Avenue in Newhall, the First, Second or Third Saturday of e very month, from 9AM to 1PM and meet with VSO Joe Sapien, who has been assisting for the past year, and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.  Mr. Sapien, an employee of the County of Los Angeles during the work week, comes to the Veteran Center as a Volunteer.  He will assist the first 8 or 9 persons who sign in on Saturdays, and any additional individuals beyond position number 9 will be referred to the following Monday for assistance.

On Selected Mondays, from 9AM to 2PM veterans will be served by Anthony Simpson, the full time supervisor of all DAV Veteran Service Officers, who will volunteer to assist.  At the present time he will appear on April 29, May 6, May 20, and June 17.  Future dates will be announced as the need becomes greater.

On all other Mondays, when Mr. Simpson is not in attendance, veterans may obtain Benefit Assistance from 9AM to Noon, through the volunteer efforts of Post Service Officers Bill Pollard and Tommy Kirk.

Additionally, for Benefit Assistance involving special issues or problems, Veterans may obtain the service of Mr. Stewart Liff, the retired Director of the Veterans Administration Regional Office. Mr. Liff is available through appointments only, arranged at the Veteran Center. He is a member of the Collaborative.

We believe that we have eliminated the need for Veterans to travel to Sepulveda or Chatsworth when they can now get the very finest assistance right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.
